Big Bazaar!

This is one bad summer!whew!

It is May and it is time for most couples out here to tie the knot.

Yesterday I was watching a documentary on an NRI family marrying their daughter off to a Canadian guy. The wedding was lavish and there was a huge party that followed. But what really surprised me was their strict adherence to tradition.I don't have a problem with people following their traditions nor with lavish weddings. But sometimes weddings out here resemble rooms filled with the expensive & dead furniture.A party where God definitely seems to be left out.

The documentary I was watching was of this broken NRI family where the Husband walked out on his Wife and the kids walked out on their Mother. But somehow they all came together for that occassion.

Last night the ladies at my place were discussing about a certain guy.He is 30, well-educated, loaded, good-looking..blah,blah!..but hasnt found a bride yet.His folks visited numerous houses but didnt find a suitable match. One of their potential matches happened to be a pretty girl who was well-educated and 24, but they refused cause she happened to be unemployed. Weeks later they heard from a source that the girls family was ready to pay her groom a suitable sum of money as dowry(25 lakhs). Now when the guy and his folks returned to her, they were shown the door, not surprisingly.

Years back, when I was in school I remember going to a wedding where the groom arrived in a helicopter( ROTFL!) and the invites had a gold coin in it.However this wedding lasted less than a year.

Heard at a wedding party"The guy is good. They must have paid a fortune to get him."

Let the wine flow...

Hey....

I like to attend Weddings.... The lavish food.... the decorations... makes me feel like a KING...

Now weddings are not the same anymore... Its become a fashion statement..... Designer gown for the bride and Armani suits for the groom.... People have forgotten the importance of marriage..

Divorces are common in Western countries.. Celebrities get married and get divorced the next day... I sometimes wonder did they get married just for one night stand???

Personally I would like to get married on a beach... Lets see what life has in store for me....

Tabbbbbbiiiiiiiiiiiiii

Great to you are still spurting em out entries!!

LOL!!

About lavish marraiges and traditions....i guess it a choice that is left to those who organise it. I mean if they feel good about it ...so be it...to each his own.

But this whole system of dowry disgusts me!

I heard that apparently one of the Keralite church bulletins has a marraige classifields where people actually write how dowry they are willing to offer!

Sick!

i cant understand from this dowry system entered into our mallu-catholic sabha.its neither a catholic tradition nor a mallu tradition.that thing u wrote bout that church bulletin showing the dowry rates..disgusting!

its not just the mallus in kerala ..but even the affluent mallu families out here make such atrocious demands. thats why i keep telling my mom..ill marry anything except a mallu!

why is something as personal as marriage made so public..this i never really understand! and no, i am not an introvert or anything of that sort..i just dont see the point. even if one is rich, why spend money like that..i'd rather go on a great honeymoon, call me selfish if u want but i wud be the last person to keep ice sculptutes or professional dancers etc. in my wedding. as for dowry, ppl who do involve themselves in this are big LOSERS! they is no other way to describe them. sick to the core!!
